ARLINGTON, Texas -- The New York Yankees took full advantage of an unusual slip by Joe Nathan. The All-Star closer threw a wild pitch when he caught his cleat on the mound, Eduardo Nunez hit the next delivery for a tying triple and then Brent Lillibridge followed with a go-ahead single to give the Yankees a 5-4 victory over the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night. "And off a very good closer," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. " It all starts with an innocent walk, then you get a big at-bat by Nuney, then Lillibridge and you get a win." New Yorks ninth-inning comeback got started when Vernon Wells drew a one-out walk from Nathan (1-1). Wells advanced to second on a pitch that ricocheted hard off the backstop, setting up a full count for Nunez. "The only thing I wish I could take back was that one that I slipped on," Nathan said. "If I make a better pitch there, at least set something up better for the 3-2 count, but I dont think hes going to chase a 30-footer after I slipped and was laying on the ground." Rangers manager Ron Washington said: "That was weird the way it happened." Interestingly enough, after Nunez tripled to deep centre, he stumbled on his way to third and practically flopped into the bag. "I was looking at the ball and thought inside-the-park (homer)," Nunez said. "And then I went around second base, I tried too much and went down." Nunez scored on a single to left by Lillibridge, whose fielding error at third base in the sixth led to four unearned runs for the Rangers. "It is what it is, but I was able to make up for it and it was a big win and Im just excited to be able to help," said Lillibridge, who was almost lifted for a pinch-hitter. "The (wild pitch) kind of changed everything. If he gets a hit right there, its going to tie it up and were going to need somebody out there at third base to play defence," Lillibridge said, describing the thoughts in his mind. "So I started creeping back over, stopped pouting after a couple of pitches and said, Hey, Ive got a chance to be able to hit again, get a big hit and score the run from third base and get a chance to maybe redeem myself." Mariano Rivera, who set up Nathans save in the All-Star game a week earlier, struck out two in a perfect ninth for his 32nd save this season, extending his career record to 640. Joba Chamberlain (2-0), the fourth Yankees pitcher, got help in his perfect eighth when centre fielder Brett Gardner made two incredible catches -- one against the wall before his running, leaping grab to end the inning. Nathan had converted 15 consecutive save chances, and 31 of 32 this season. Texas had been 51-0 when leading after eight innings. "In that case you have to give the Yankees credit for fighting the way they did," Washington said. "Anytime we put Joe out there, we figure the game is over. ... We just didnt get that one shut down." Texas led 4-3 after Mitch Moreland greeted reliever Boone Logan with a two-run homer, his 14th. Alexi Ogando returned from the disabled list to start for Texas, and allowed three runs in five innings. Ross Wolf, Jason Frasor and Neal Cotts each had 1-2-3 innings, stretching the bullpens scoreless streak to 25 1-3 consecutive innings before a rare blown save by Nathan. Nelson Cruz reached on an error by Lillibridge in the sixth before an RBI double by Adrian Beltre, who scored on a single by Elvis Andrus that chased Phil Hughes. Hughes struck out one and walked three while giving up three runs, all unearned, in 5 2-3 innings. New York had gone more than two games without an extra-base hit before Melky Mesa and Austin Romine -- the Nos. 8-9 hitters -- had consecutive doubles for a 1-0 lead before an RBI infield single by Ichiro Suzuki. Wells hit a leadoff double in the fourth and scored on a fielders choice when second baseman Ian Kinsler fielded Lillibridges grounder and short-hopped a throw to the plate. NOTES: Before the game, Rivera visited about 20 workers at Rangers Ballpark, thanking them as he has in his final visit to every stadium in his final season. He met with members of the complex grounds crew, a mechanic and several workers who keep the televisions in the stadium working. The Rangers will honour Rivera in a pregame ceremony on the field Thursday. ... Yankees OF Curtis Granderson (broken pinkie) and INF Jayson Nix (hamstring) could begin minor league rehab assignments this week. But when it comes to determining if Raymond will find a place on the Leafs roster when training camp concludes in a week, well, that decision will ultimately fall to the head coach. Doudoune Canada Goose Femme . This should be celebrated because it will not always be this way. With the amount of money given to players by their clubs these days, it is a wonder that so many of those teams allow the sport to continue to take away many of their assets so they can play for a different team in the middle of their season. .C. Lions has come to an end. Banks told TSN on Jan 2 that he had no interest in playing out the option year of his contract with the Lions in 2014, and he again made that clear in a conversation with Lions GM Wally Buono last week. Canada Goose Pas Cher . Thats about all he can do right now, so hes trying not to think about when he might be able to play again for the Los Angeles Lakers. Canada Goose Bebe Pas Cher . -- For the first time in two months, an opponent was standing up to Alabama. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The highly touted defensive recruit that arrived at Virginia three years ago and the dispirited Andrew Brown that coach Bronco Mendenhall encountered last December had very little in common.Brown, a five-star recruit and Gatorade national player of the year, had lost his way.He had quickly found his way into then-defensive coordinator Jon Tenutas doghouse once he got on campus. Brown didnt put in the work needed to be successful in college and even when he adjusted his work ethic, his chances to make an impression were fleeting. With a second chance to shine, the new and improved Brown is thriving under Mendenhall. Brown is doing so well that Mendenhall gets emotional when talking about the journey of such a talented recruit with the potential to be an impact player in the program.Thats kind of a tender spot for me. the Cavaliers first-year coach said this week of Brown. Hes maturing, and hes trying really hard. Hes transforming kind of right before our eyes into a more mature, more capable, more trustworthy, more responsible person and player all at the same time. And hes enjoying it.Brown is one of several reasons for optimism at Virginia despite its disappointing record. The Cavaliers (2-6, 1/3 Atlantic Coast Conference) play at Wake Forest (5-3, 2-2) on Saturday. The soft-spoken Brown is second among the Cavaliers with 7 1/2 tackles for a loss this season, and got his fourth sack last weekend when the Cavaliers came within an eyelash of beating No. 5 Louisville .With one more year ahead of him, hes eager to see what the future holds.I dont have a whole lot of mileage on my body, so its a plus, he said. ... I was blessed with the opportunity to have a lot more snaps than I played my previous two years. So looking back, it humbles me and pushes me to drive forward because if it wasnt for the neww coaching staff, I would probably be in the same position.ddddddddddddMendenhall, meanwhile, acknowledges that Brown has been a challenging player to coach. There have been times where Ive told him, `less drama, more work, he said. I probably said it maybe to him more frequently than any other player at the beginning of our time here as he was in a pretty fragile spot, and I cant speak to that. Im just saying what I saw when I arrived. ... Still on given plays, hell do things where Im wondering where hes going and whats he doing. But now, more often, hes doing it how hes supposed to do it.Brown feels like he has a duty to be there for his team, and he regrets not being able to be on the field after the first play of the Cardinals game-winning drive. Instead, he was nursing a cramp, and watching.I knew my team needed me and I needed to be in there, he said. But at the end of the day, Ive got to control what I can control and at that point in time, I couldnt control that I was cramping up. So Ill do what I can do this week, just prepare and treat my body better than I did the week previously and come ready to play.Virginia has four games remaining, and needs to win them all to make a bowl for the first time since 2011.Were just ready to attack it, Brown said. Its not too much thinking involved. Its one game at a time and thats the right mind to have. And you just got to take it one game at a time. If youre looking past Wake Forest and at the other teams then you wont be able to really lock in on the task at hand, which is Wake Forest. So just taking it one game at a time, like I said.---More AP college football: Hank on Twitter: Cheap NFL Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys Wholesale NFL Jerseys Jerseys From China Wholesale NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys ' ' '
